January:
ECAT begin their universally accessible bus service to Clarecastle.
Funding is received to establish a family resource support office.
A review of the EOCP capital grant application is begun at the request
of ADM.
March:
Meetings are held with the minister of state Sean Power TD in regard to the
elderly day care centre.
April:
As a follow on to the meetings with the minister Sean Power TD.
Positive meetings have been held with HSE Mid-Western Region management.
All through the spring of 2005 a working group is negotiating an agreement
with a number of interested parties re the courthouse in Sixmilebridge.
June:
Clare County Council agree to lease the courthouse to us
July:
Bigger and better summer festival with "BUNGEE"

August:
Lease on courthouse signed off on We pursue a meeting with ADM development officer in regard to finalising
the childcare drawdown
September:
Renovations of €40, 0000 begin on the courthous
October:
The Courthouse opens to fulfil a much needed community office role.
November:
In a meeting with ADM development officer
an agreement is reached on how to make the facility fit the budget in
principal. Contracts will be signed in June 2006.
The first ever Craft Fair is held in Sixmilebridge in the Court House
this fully accessible community building is a great success.
2004
January
The society opens its own community owned childcare
facility. Some funding for this facility is granted by the Mid-Western
Health Board. Notification of the decision to grant outline planning permission
is received.
9th January:
A submission is made for The Elderly Care Strategy for the Mid-Western Health Board.
February:
The society sources training for the public in Sixmilebridge on community work in an effort to encourage participation.
March:
The transportation of the elderly needs to be reworked as a number of users of the service are temporarily incapacitated
and we cannot offer universal accessible transport.
We receive encouraging overtures regarding our family resource status
application.
May:
Remedial works are completed on the parochial hall the location of the childcare service. This work is funded by the Mid-Western
Health Board.
July:
We negotiate with East Clare accessible transport
to expand their universally accessible service to the Sixmilebridge area
to facilitate the elderly attending the day-care centre. They plan their
future in our area around our proposed complex.
EOCP staffing grant application is approved
2003
February:
Land is secured from Clare County Council.
12th May:
The committee member’s form a cooperative
"Sixmilebridge & District Community Complex Society Limited.
May:
At the AGM a second concept, which had been requested
by Clare County Council, was presented and ratified by the community.
July:
A second summer festival day is held and receives
rave reviews; this is in part funded by the Clare Sports Partnership.
12th September:
A Child Care Needs survey is completed.
September:
The committee under-takes intensive team
building and completes committee training course over 6 weeks. This is
funded by leader RRD.
Autumn:
E.O.P.C. Grant application process begins based on the results of the childcare survey.
The architect is re-engaged to bring drawings of the Bridge Complex to
a stage where outline planning permission can be applied for.
An application for family resource centre status is submitted to Minister
Mary Coughlan.
December:
The Bridge Complex outline planning permission
is applied for.
2002
January:
Architects services are engaged to design the Bridge Complex concept to be ready for April.
April:
We begin transporting a limited number (17% of
projected capacity) of elderly from our area to Clarecastle District day-care
centre. Within weeks we are swamped with requests for inclusion.
24th April:
Architects concept of the Bridge Complex
is presented to the public.
May & June:
A feasibility study for the Bridge Complex
was carried out to satisfy the concerns of what turns out to be less than
1.5% of the population of the community.
Summer:
Fundraising gains momentum the traditional summer
festival is revitalised after many years of non existence.
August:
Negotiations begin with Clare County Council
for the donation of the proposed site.
2001
21st April:
Initial approach to Clare County Council.
24th April:
A semi public meeting is held to try and
identify the amenity requirements of the community of Sixmilebridge and its hinterland, the support for the
concept is overwhelming.
12th June:
There is unanimous agreement on the need
for the facilities at first full public meeting.
September:
Fundraiser to cover the cost of architectural
services is a great success.
Fundraising then continues as an on going activity.
1998/1999
In 1998 and 1999 the neighbourhood watch conducts a type of mini census
of the elderly and vulnerable in the greater community for the purpose
of installing socially monitored alarms.
